Podwalk Vlagheide 1944
An immersive podwalk about Operation Market Garden. As part of the 80th anniversary of Market Garden, the municipality of Meierijstad wanted to bring the historic landing of American paratroopers at Vlagheide to life in an innovative way. This significant event from September 1944 needed to be made accessible to a wide audience, focusing on authentic stories and historical locations.
Challenge
The task was to combine personal war stories, historical facts, and original locations into one immersive audio experience. It needed to be more than just a regular podwalk - users had to be able to empathize with the events of 1944 as if they were there themselves. Additionally, the tour needed to work flawlessly with GPS guidance and be suitable for independent use.
Result
Big Orange created a 90-minute podwalk that combines history and innovation. Through careful script development, spatial sound design, and professional audio production, an immersive experience emerged that transports users back to September 1944.
The 4.4-kilometer route leads past historical locations such as the Sint Anthoniusmolen, the Eerde church, and the Spitfire monument. Thanks to authentic eyewitness accounts, realistic sound effects, and professional voice actors, the stories and events become tangible at each location. The GPS-guided tour is user-friendly and freely available through the PodTrips Den Bosch Region app.
The podwalk has become a valuable part of Meierijstad's recreational and tourist offerings and helps keep this important war history alive for new generations.
